Description: This trail starts 9 miles up Avalanche Creek trail and ends at the pass. It is another
quarter mile down to Capitol Lake. The trail starts in conifers then opens up into alpine areas with
wildflowers and fantastic views of Avalanche Creek. It may also be accessed from the Aspen
District. It is used heavily by horse packers. Please give horses the right of way so they do not tear
up the vegetation on the sides of the trail. Remember, this trail starts 9 miles up Avalanche Creek
trail, and is another 1/4 mile to Capitol Lake, so it is 10 and 3/4 miles one-way to Capitol Lake from
the Avalanche Creek trailhead.

and proceed three miles along the road to the parking area at the far end of Avalanche Campground.
